Update on Happy Handbag

From September (2026) Happy Handbags will be gratefully accepting suitable toiletries for Happy Handbags plus underwear and childrens’ clothing. Please read below to find out why….

I have been thinking long and hard about this but I think that the time has come to simply concentrate on Happy Handbag and greatly restrict Happy Bags. This is very sad but, due to age and health, I’m having to cut back on what I do. The black sacks of bedding and clothing are simply becoming too much for me to manage.

The world is becoming a very different place, everything is instant and I’m finding, along with some charities, that mixed in with donations being received are often items totally unsuitable – an odd shoe, stained clothing, broken toys and even broken disposable beakers – it’s like people are just having a hasty clear-out where everything goes into a black sack and is ‘donated’ with no thought being given to its suitability or usefulness. If you are taking the time to read this then I’m sure this doesn’t apply to you.. I would suggest that anyone having bags of adult clothing that are no longer needed you a web search for Service Providers in your area – check out a list of Service Providers Happy Handbag support here

I’m still happy to take small bags of childrens’ clothing, for Family Haven, plus any unused underwear which is always in very short supply in Service Providers centres. With the underwear, we often buy packs of underwear, wear one, then decide we don’t like them for whatever reason and they get pushed to the back of the draw never to see daylight again (I’m talking from experience here). Please still donate these – they’re small enough for me to easily manage.

Donations and request for my ‘talks’ (my only form of income for Happy Handbag) are slowing right down. I’m finding I’m buying items for the bags now and this is not sustainable. I want to thank all who are still collecting and donating for the handbags. Without you there would be no Happy Handbag. If you know of an organisation who has speakers (e.g. W.I.) then please mentions Happy Handbag to them..

As always a huge ‘thank you’ to all who have donated and continue to donate to Happy Handbag. Also, as always, ‘thank you’ to Big Yellow Self Storage in Gloucester who offer continued support. In the unit at the mo are handbags waiting to be filled plus coats – getting ready for the cold winter months.

Any questions or suggestions you may have please get in touch or use the button on the menu.

If anyone has read this through to the end THANK YOU!
