Indian Head Massage is a wonderful aid to relaxation and revitalization. The head is one of the main energy centres of the body, and in the A & P Massage section you will have seen information on these energy centres. This will help you to understand many of the movements given in the
hands-on workshop section.
You can self treat with Indian Head Massage
Whether you are doing this course in order to treat members of you family and friends, or to build up to a professional practice, the key to giving a good treatment is to ensure that the recipient is relaxed and comfortable. With practice you will soon learn how to effect this. The more you practice the more confident you will become.
Indian Head Massage involve the massage of the shoulders, neck, head and face. I also include in the manual a sheet showing very basic relaxation, stress relief exercises.
When teaching Indian Head Massage I do not use oils in the hair. If you choose to use oils then please do so with great care. Base oils are most commonly used but remember – Almond base oil is a nut oil – check for nut allergies. Lavender oil is the oil with least contraindications but, even though I do have a qualification in aromatherapy, I do not feel comfortable using any oils- so do not.
Please note – this training does not qualify you to use oils. Also, if the client is going back to work after the treatment, they will not want oily hair
Course Objective
The main aim of this course is to teach you the principles of Indian Head Massage in your own time with the distance learning element. The tutor marked assignment is to ensure thorough background is gained and the workshop element is to give you the time to practice these principles with others who are learning too. You will have the opportunity to practice the movements then combine them all to give a fellow student a complete treatment. We often find that we learn a great deal from each other with regard to Complementary healthcare, swapping experiences and giving feed-back as treatments are received.
The classes are very small so individual tutoring and feedback from the tutor is ensured.
You will see many references to additional reading material and informative web sites. I strongly recommend you study these along with your manual.

The Gentle Touch Indian Head Massage Practitioner Diploma course is mindful of the National Occupational Standards for a number of Complementary Therapies as defined by Skill for Health, the Government endorsed organisation involved in Voluntary Self Regulation for Complementary Healthcare.
CNH1 and CNH2 -These National Occupational Standard were developed by Skills for Health. This standard links with the following dimension within the NHS Knowledge and Skills Framework (October 2004). It is not a requirement to follow these standards but it is very good practice to read through and understand them.
